Cheapest petrol costs in the UK
When it comes to the cheapest place in the UK to juice up your motor, Belfast takes the top spot by the finest of margins.
As the country deals with the continued challenges of soaring bills and expenses, we've sifted through branded petrol stations, supermarkets, and service stations on PetrolPrices.com to map out the UK cities with the most budget-friendly fuel costs.
Based on our findings, the capital city of Northern Ireland is the cheapest location for a refill, with petrol costs in Belfast averaging a reasonable 131.96p per litre. That's by far the best deal you can hope to get throughout the UK.
In fact, there is only a slight difference of 0.42p per litre with petrol bills elsewhere in Northern Ireland in Armagh, which instead sits in second place with an average fuel price of 132.38p.
Northern Ireland actually continues to perform well across the top 6 locations, with an average petrol cost of 133.23p in Newry, followed closely by Londonderry (133.33p per litre) in fourth place. Finally in 5th and 6th place are Lisburn and Bangor (not to be confused with the Bangor in Wales), where you'll be paying an average of 133.95p and 134.22p at the pump respectively.
Interestingly, Bangor's Welsh equivalent would equal a difference of over 2p per litre, with average prices coming in at 136.41p.
From Northern Ireland, we head over to Scotland for 7th place, with prices in Dundee clocking in at an average of 134.62p per litre. The rest of the list is rounded off by the north of England - in 8th place we find Durham, where prices are actually equal to those in Dundee at 134.62p. To the south in Yorkshire, Wakefield occupies 9th place with an average cost per litre of 134.83p, with Leeds rounding off the top 10 with a very respectable 135.37p per litre.
The field is much tighter than when we ran this analysis in 2024 - could that a sign of brighter days ahead or is it too soon to tell...?
