What personal information does First Response Finance need?
When you apply for vehicle finance with us, we will need basic details such as your full name, current address, phone number(s), and employment information.
It is important that the information you provide us is accurate and honest, so that we can make a well-informed decision on your approval.
Do you use a credit reference agency for credit checks?
Yes, we use Experian to run credit checks on all our customers.
Why have I been turned down by First Response Finance?
When making a decision on your approval, we take into consideration your personal details I.e. age, employment status, and income as well as the results of your credit check.
If you have been turned down by us, it is likely that your finance application failed to meet our minimum acceptance criteria. We recommend that you check your credit file with Experian, Equifax or another credit reference agency to see what the issues are.
Will you contact my employer?
On some occasions, we will need to contact your employer to validate the information you have given us about your employment – this is usually when you have a temporary contract or have only been employed by your current employer for a short period of time.
We will always confirm that you are happy for us to contact your employer before contacting them.
What is the minimum and maximum loan amount?
With our Hire Purchase agreements, we can lend anything from £1,000 to £15,000, but the majority of our loans are between £2,000 and £10,000.
Can I choose a vehicle that is being sold privately?
No, you cannot purchase a vehicle from a private seller. All the vehicles we finance must be from a licensed dealership.
Can I choose a vehicle from any dealership?
You can purchase a vehicle from any FCA authorised dealership.
If you are unsure about whether a dealership has an FCA licence, you can use the Financial Services Register to check.
Please note that there are some dealerships that First Response Finance will not work with; this could be due to negative customer feedback or past experiences with the dealership, and we believe that excluding these dealerships from our database of dealer partners is in the best interest of our customers.
Can you help me find a vehicle?

We have a great relationship with thousands of car, van, and motorbike dealerships across the UK – we can even provide you with a list of dealerships local to you.
What should I do when I’ve found the vehicle that I want to purchase?
When you have found the vehicle that you want to purchase, make a note of the registration number, mileage, and price as well as the dealership’s name – these details will need to be added to your finance application. To do this, call us on 0115 946 6260 (new customers) or 01842 686 687 (renewal customers).
If you have an online account, you will be able to do this by logging into the Customer Portal.
Can I use my part exchange as a deposit?
Yes, you can use your part exchange as a deposit for your Hire Purchase agreement.
You will need to agree a part exchange price with the dealership that you a purchasing your new vehicle from.
Please note: a deposit is not always required; it is dependent on the price of the vehicle and the credit limit you are set.
Do I need to pay a fee or commission charge?
No, we do not charge our customers any additional fees.
As the dealership acts as a credit intermediary, they may receive a commission, paid for by First Response Finance, if you purchase a vehicle using our Hire Purchase product.
