The New Business & Renewal Teams

Our New Business and Renewals teams are responsible for processing customer applications.

In order to make this process as efficient as possible we have a few different roles which help us. Very simply put this structure is split into those who write and approve the applications (Underwriters), those who carry out the admin and support functions (Sales Support) and those who organise each person's availability to cover customer demand (Co-ordinators).

Co-ordinator Sales Support Trainee Underwriter


New Business Trainee Underwriter

Location: Glasgow

Our Underwriters work as part of a team by processing customer applications through phone calls with customers. Through great questioning and conversational skills they assess the customer's affordability along with their stability and intent in order to make a lending decision for their needs.

All Trainee Underwriters are given the best training and support possible on their way to becoming an full Underwriter. As part of this journey they are trained and work in Sales Support to help them understand all of the processes and systems involved and to give them a better understanding of how we work. Once they are fully competent in the Sales Support role they start their training as Underwriters to ensure that by the end of their development path they become successful and competent Underwriters.

Co-ordinator

Location: Glasgow and Nottingham

Only seen within New Business our Co-ordinators are responsible for managing availability to ensure customer demands are met in a timely fashion.

This role requires a person that can work quickly but to a high standard with a keen eye for detail. Our Co-ordinators are great at multitasking with an ability to prioritise workloads, they have superb communication skills, able to work well in a team and are good at understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses. A Co-ordinator's resilience to a fast pace environment, as well as their ability to adapt to change, are necessary skills to perform in and enjoy this role successfully.

Renewals Sales Support Administrator

Location: Leigh 

Sales Support are responsible for supporting business from an administrative perspective. They work alongside our Underwriters to check all inbound documentation and ensure it is sufficient and attached to the relevant finance application, this helps our underwriters move to the next stage as quickly as possible. Part of a Sales Support role is to build and maintain positive relationships with customers and dealers by managing time expectations and updating them where necessary.

Exceptional attention to detail is required in order to check Underwriters’ investigations and make sure that First Response are lending responsibly and treating customers fairly.

Like all the roles at First Response a positive attitude to learning and high motivation for self-development are crucial. Working in Sales Support provides a good grounding to those who may want to work towards a career as an Underwriters, however, there are other avenues within the Sales Support team for those who want to develop in this area of the business.
